Paris Photo 2017 was a great fair, in spite of some cold and rainy weather and Armistice Day blockades around the streets. As usual, attendance grew as the days progressed until Sunday when you could barely move in the aisles. All the dealers with whom we spoke were happy with their sales and we saw some pretty hefty ones, including a unique color carbro print by Man Ray for over $400,000, a Richard Avedon from his American West series for $600,000 and a number of photographs at the Howard Greenberg Gallery, including an Edward Steichen and Edward Weston, selling in the six figures. We would tell anyone who has not had a chance to go to the fair to try and be there for next year. In addition to all the photographs seen at the Grand Palais, there are shows around the city during the month of November, such as Albert Renger-Patzsch and Irving Penn (we had a lovely tour with Jeff Rosenheim of the Penn show).
